Hard to say what this piece of equipment is.  Perhaps a drill.  The rubber hoses imply that it was hydraulic, air or steam driven?  Some parts are probably missing.  To remove the granite, a hole was drilled, and I haven't decided if they used dynamite or wedges to split the rock.  I should have taken photos of the waste granite and the tower.  I also think they used the tower and winch to move this gear up out of the quarry, saving it from drowning.
